A Frozen Pumpkin

Frozen Pumpkin - Disney in your Day

Are you one of those people who starts decorating for Christmas as soon as Halloween is over?  Or do you leave the fall decor up until Thanksgiving?  I like to keep the fall spirit going for awhile, but I also really look forward to Christmas.  By combining a pumpkin with Frozen and snowflakes, you can kind of get the best of both worlds!

Ever  I’ve come up with a little Halloween tradition for myself – painting a pumpkin.  I’m not a huge fan of carving so I decided to paint instead, and I’ve been doing it on plastic pumpkins so I can keep them around in the future.  Every year I add a new one to the collection – and of course every pumpkin I’ve done is Disney themed!  You can see the other pumpkins I’ve made here, as well as my Inside Out pumpkin from last year.

I was really late to the game when it came to buying my craft pumpkin to paint.  So on the positive side it was super discounted.  On the downside they didn’t have any orange pumpkins left, only white.  What Disney movie would go best on a white pumpkin?  Well, with all of the snow, the answer seems obvious – Frozen!

I always paint my pumpkins with silhouettes, because I am not really an artist and I definitely can’t do detail work (just saying, don’t look at Elsa’s hands on this pumpkin!).  So most of what I paint is black, but I try to incorporate color where I can to add some detail.  There was plenty of that last year with Inside Out, and for Frozen we were already working with a white base so I used some blue paint in addition to the black.

I did an outline of both Anna and Elsa.  I really liked the idea of contrasting Elsa’s blue cape with her black silhouette.  And I added some fun snowflakes as well.  I do freehand everything, but I usually do a Google image search to get some ideas and to get inspired.

As always, I did my best to replicate the movie’s logo on the back.  Who knows what next year will bring!

What do you think of my Frozen pumpkin?  Any ideas for which movie I should tackle next year?

That is such a cute idea!! I bet my little nieces would LOVE painting Frozen pumpkins. So creative! Next year, I think you should do a Moana pumpkin! My hubby is Polynesian, and I’d love to see a pumpkin painted in that style. Maybe the ocean with Moana’s boat, and Maui’s silouhette? Now you’ve inspired me to pull out some paint, and grab the pumpkins off of our table.

That’s a great idea! I love Moana so I’d definitely like to try my hand at a Moana inspired pumpkin next year.

Thank you! I’m not big into carving either so this is a great alternative!

You should do some of the old school movies for next year!

That’s a good idea – I’m definitely thinking about Peter Pan because the silhouettes of them flying would be perfect!

It is hilarious but when I first read the name of the blog post I literally thought you were freezing pumpkins. I definitely should have known better.
