I don’t know about where you are right now, but for me, it’s very cold and snowy. We got close to a foot of snow yesterday, with ice on top! That means lots of warm beverages for me. And I figured I’d choose a mug that helps me think of tropical and warmer climates, too.
My Aulani “Rainbow State of Mind” mug feels like the perfect choice! I don’t usually buy a ton of Disney merch these days. I need to make sure it’s something special that I’ll use. But Aulani was a bit of an exception, since I’m not sure when (if ever) I’ll make it back to Hawaii. I let myself splurge a little bit there, and of course one thing I had to get was a mug!
They had a number of different choices, but this one from their Rainbow collection was my favorite. Hawaii is known as the rainbow state, and I was waiting to see a rainbow the whole time we were there. On the way back to the airport, I was a little bummed we never got one (though I can’t complain much, since we got so many great sunrises and sunsets). And then, lo and behold – through the car windows we saw the most spectacular rainbow! It was truly incredible and stretched from end to end. I wish I could have gotten a better photo of it other than in the car, but this will have to do.
Anyhow, back to the mug. It has a speckled white background with a brown base, and it’s a generous size. One side features the outside facade of Aulani’s main building, with the arched windows. The main three colors on the design are shades of red, yellow, and a light green. A rainbow stretches above Aulani, with “Rainbow State of Mind” up top and the Aulani logo on the bottom. There are also a number of tropical flowers across the entire mug.
On the other side we have our friends Mickey and Minnie! They are dressed and ready for a Hawaiian vacation, in the same color scheme as on the front. And of course they’re enjoying one of the best treats at Aulani – shaved ice!
What’s in my mug: Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. If you’re a Star Trek fan I’m assuming you get my reference. If not, it’s also just a fact because it’s what I’ve been drinking lately! I’ve found more and more that coffee isn’t sitting as well with me, so I’ve switched to tea a majority of days. I still do coffee if I really need a caffeine boost, though some of that might just be mental. I also prefer tea in the afternoon, and earl grey has always been my favorite. Me and Captain Picard.
What I’m currently reading: Every year Jason and I get each other a book for Christmas, and the past few years he’s started getting himself a copy of the book he gets me so we can read it together. This year we’re reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. It’s a 1939 detective story that was made into a noir style movie in 1946. I’m about halfway through and really enjoying it so far. It’s a genre that greatly appeals to me, and the characters are good fun. They’re very sassy, I would say, and there’s a lot of good lines. It’s not for everyone, but I find it quite clever.
What mug are you using right now? And what are you currently reading?
