Dining at the Tam O’Shanter

Tam O'Shanter - Disney in your Day

Do you know much about Walt Disney and his history with the company?  One fun fact is that he liked to eat lunch a lot of times at a place called the Tam O’Shanter.  It’s still around today, so as a big Disney fan I decided it was the perfect place to have dinner on our day in LA!

Tam O'Shanter - Disney in your Day

The Tam O’Shanter has a very cozy pub feeling to it.  Lots of dark wood that reminded me of the old pubs I visited when I studied abroad in England.  Our server told us if we can come back at Christmas time they have lots of great decorations and it’s really worth seeing.  Our server also happened to be British, having come over to pursue an acting career, so his accent really added to the atmosphere for us!

When Walt visited he had a particular table that he would always sit at.  I had put a note on my reservation that we would like that table if possible, and I requested it at check-in.  Unfortunately, they had just seated it about five minutes before we arrived.  That was a little bit of a bummer but we still could see his table from where we sat.  I apologize that my food photos aren’t great quality – it was very dark in there.

The menu is rather pricey, especially when you consider that it’s a pub.  That being said, the food was delicious so I think it was worth the higher prices.  I myself ordered the fish and chips.  It’s a pretty standard dish, but some of the best fish and chips I’ve had. There was one big piece of breaded fish, and the fries were so good – they were hand cut in all different sizes, which I actually liked.  Fat fries and skinny fries!

Jason had a fish dish as well, I believe it was trout of some sort.  It was on a special menu, not the regular one.  He very much enjoyed this.

We also ordered a side of mac and cheese to share.  This was absolutely delicious and I would order it again if I came back.  Some really great, gourmet style mac and cheese!

When we placed our orders our server asked if we wanted to order dessert then too, as their specialty is a chocolate soufflé and it takes half an hour to bake.  He highly recommended it so we decided to try it!  If you like chocolate (and I do!) this is absolutely heavenly.  It’s rich, chocolatey, and delicious.

I was really impressed by the quality of food we had at Tam O’Shanter.  I would certainly try to go back here, particularly at Christmas time because it looks like such a cozy spot for the winter.  If you’re a Disney fan I would highly recommend you go for the history, but even if you don’t care – go for the food!

The chocolate souffle look so good…light and fluffy on the outside, chocolatey and gooey on the inside…

Me too Tiffany! When I go to a pub style place I often order the fish and chips because I think it’s the quintessential pub dish – and how well they do their fish and chips may tell you a lot about the place 🙂

Definitely reminds me of eating in Ireland. So happy to see this recommendation, we’re always looking for new restaurants to try when we visit the area.
