It usually takes me about 40 minutes to work each way, and several days a week I have play rehearsals which are 30 minutes each way. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time in the car. One of my favorite ways to pass the time is to keep up with all of my Disney news by listening to Disney podcasts! I listen to a lot, but here are some of my favorites:
The DIS Unplugged
This is seriously the #1 podcast to listen to if you really want to stay up to date on all of the latest news and events. They also do a number of special segments that you can listen to if it interests you. In addition, they produce a number of other podcasts, so if you’re interested in learning more about Universal, Disneyland, or the general Orlando area, you can find it.
Communicore Weekly
Communicore Weekly has to be the funniest Disney podcast that I listen to. Hosted by Jeff and George, each episode is usually about 25-30 minutes, making it one of the shorter ones (which is nice). It’s broken into segments with usually one main topic of discussion, a book review, and some fun facts thrown in at the end. It’s mostly Disney history based, so if you enjoy the historical aspect of the parks and the company this is a must-listen.
ONCE
While not about the parks, this podcast is the best one to listen to if you’re into the show Once upon a Time, produced by ABC and based on Disney movies/characters. They do an in-depth analysis of each episode. If you only have a little bit of time you can listen to their initial reactions, which are usually about 30 minutes long, or you can invest in the full blown analysis, which is generally a 1 ½-2 hour episode.
WDW Radio
This podcast is hosted by Lou Mongello, and he usually has at least one guest if not more on each week to discuss a certain topic with him. His podcast covers all sorts of things – in park dining reviews, historical information about the theme parks, discussion about a specific land, etc. He’s a wealth of information, but I think the thing that really makes this podcast a winner is his obvious passion for Disney and what he does. I’ve only been listening for a couple of months, but he comes off as so sincere and passionate that I really enjoy listening to him.
The DFB Podcast
I wasn’t going to put this on the list because I thought it was defunct, but they’ve released a new episode recently! This was my favorite podcast of all time because AJ and (Brian) just worked so well together and were hilarious. They talk all about the latest food news and anything Disney/food related! It’s also worth going back to listen to their old episodes.
Honorable Mention: Radio Harambe
I kind of have mixed feelings on this podcast, but I love the idea that there is a whole podcast dedicated just to Animal Kingdom. My one issue is that at times the hosts can be a little condescending to the other three Disney parks, which rubs me the wrong way – it may just be their sense of humor, too, so if you get it then I think this podcast is a good one. When they stick to talking about Animal Kingdom, it’s a very informative and interesting podcast.
Do you listen to any Disney podcasts (or any other types of podcasts)? Which ones are your favorites?
I have only ever listened to a few podcasts but I definitely need to do this for my 40 minute commute. I’m most interested in the one focused on Once Upon a Time!
Yes, I can’t wait for Once Upon a Time to start again! The podcast helps me when I have a million questions or things I want to talk about with the episode but no one to talk to!
I really like The Rotoscopers but that’s overall animation not just Disney. Those 5 sounds great. Thanks for the tips
I’m not familiar with them, I’ll have to check that out as well!
What a neat way to learn more about Disney! Thanks for discussing which ones are best for different things, it’s such a good way to know which podcasts are right for you.
Glad I could help Louisa! There are so many out there it’s hard to know which ones are worth your time.
I usually listen to music in the car, but a podcast could be fun. I had no idea there were so many Disney ones. I’ll def have to listen when we finally plan a trip.
I think listening to podcasts is one of the best ways to plan a trip – they also keep you up to date with the current events and changes happening in the theme parks!
This is so cool! I have never in my life listened to a podcast, and had NO IDEA there were Disney ones! Can’t wait to check some of them out! 🙂
Oh yes, they’re great! One of my long term goals is to try and start my own Disney podcast 🙂
I don’t listen to any podcasts currently but I definitely will add these to our list for the drive to Disney! They will definitely get us in the mood and fill some of the space for the 8 hr ride 😉
Yes, they are perfect for that! I listen to podcasts a lot but I save a bunch of Disney ones for when I am traveling there!
