10 Great Apps for a Disney Vacation

One thing that I hate when I visit Disney World is seeing people glued to their phones the entire time they are there.  Disney has so many amazing things to see all around you that you are missing out on the experience by being buried in your phone!  That being said, smart phones are an amazing thing at times to make your park experience a little easier.  As long as you’re not missing out by being on your phone, try downloading these apps for your next vacation.

These apps for a Disney vacation are all available for android, as that is the type of phone I have.  I can only assume that the majority of them are available on iOS as well.

My Disney Experience – this is the official Disney app.  I won’t lie, it has problems sometimes.  But if you’re looking for the place where all of your reservations, fastpasses, etc. can be found, this is it.  You’ll also find park hours and have the ability to make reservations on the go, too.

Touring Plans – an unofficial app, but one of my favorites.  It provides unofficial wait times, park hours, and lots of basic info.  Plus, you can create your own touring plan.  Pick your park and select all the rides you want to do, and it will optimize it for you and tell you which order is best to do them in.  It’s an amazing tool, though the touring plan aspect of it does cost a yearly subscription of about $11.95 per year.  I find it totally worth it though.

Weather Channel – Be prepared for the weather in Disney!  Will it be super hot or a little chilly at night?  Do you need to bring your ponchos and umbrellas to the park that day?

Dreamdays Countdown – before your trip you can set up your very own countdown to keep track of many days until your trip!  I like this app because you can customize it with your own photo.

Southwest (or your airline) – I usually fly Southwest, but almost every airline has an app now.  You can check in to your flight 24 hours ahead of time (great when you’re in the parks during check-in time!), you can check your flight status, and even bring up a mobile boarding pass.

Shop Parks – Looking to do some shopping in Disney?  The new Shop Parks app lists a ton of the merchandise available in the parks, and where you can find it.  Many of the items can also be ordered from home, so if you missed out on something you wish you’d bought during your trip, you still might be able to get it.

Plant Nanny – staying hydrated while you visit Disney is super important, especially during the summer.  I use this app to track my water intake all the time, but it’s especially useful in Disney.  You have a plant you have to take care of, and you can set a goal for how many ounces of water you want to drink per day.  If you don’t hit your goal your plant will wither and die!

Instagram  – When I leave for Disney people always say to me, “Take lots of photos!”  And of course I do on my camera, but I also try to take some phone pics to put up on Instagram.  I have a lot of friends and family who like to feel they are there “with me”, so I post photos in real time.  If you don’t follow me, go to Instagram.com/disneyinyourday to keep up with my Disney trips!

Color Note – particularly because I write blog posts, I often like to keep track of things I see in the park that are interesting or things I learn.  Color Note is my go-to app for list making and text writing.  I also use it for trips to make things such as packing lists, a record of my fastpasses, and various food items I want to try while I’m there.

Tsum Tsum – Yes, I highly encourage looking around and taking in all of the details of Disney.  But it’s true that there are times when you just get bored.  Maybe you’re waiting for a show to start, or you’re in a long line that doesn’t have an interesting queue.  Kill some time with my favorite Disney app game, tsum tsum!

What are your favorite apps to use while you’re in Disney?

I”ll have to try some of these out next time. Last time I was in Disneyland I tried one and had a lame experience, and felt I took some of the magic out of the natural happenings of the park. I’ll have to give your list a try! Thanks!

Aw that’s a shame that you had a lame experience with an app! Do you remember which one it was?

I love Plant Nanny; such a fun way to make sure you drink all your water! We also used the Disney Park app while we were there, and it was a life saver!
