Disney news, rumors, and roundup: January 2026

Last updated January 3, 2026 by Becky Leave a Comment

Welcome to 2026! I’m hopeful that this will be the start to a great year. I will be kicking things off by running the Disney World marathon this month – wish me luck! It will be an interesting year for the theme parks, as Disney World prepares to open a number of new attractions in 2027-2028. There are still plenty of great things happening in 2026, too! What are you most looking forward to?

Disney news

  • Rock n Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith will close on March 2, 2026. When it reopens this summer, it will be starring the Muppets!
  • Typhoon Lagoon will close for refurbishment on February 14th, and Blizzard Beach will reopen on February 15th.
  • Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian resort now opens a bit earlier, at 11am. There is also currently a “join the waitlist” walkup option on the app.
  • Sprinkles, the cupcake shop in Disney Springs, closed permanently on January 1, 2026.
  • Disney Cruise Line’s family cabanas on Castaway Cay are being renamed the Sandcastle Cabanas.
  • A number of new things are opening in Disneyland Paris this year, including a Frozen-themed land and several new restaurants and stores.
  • Star Wars fans can look forward to watching the original 1977 version of A New Hope in theaters in February 2027, in honor of the 50 year anniversary.
  • Disney and Hallmark have teamed up to create a Christmas movie, which takes place in Disney World. It will be released next Christmas season!

Disney rumors

Animal Kingdom // Disney has filed some construction permits for the Tree of Life, leading to some sensationalized headlines about the tree being removed. Most sources actually seem to indicate that this is just regular maintenance and refurbishment.

Magic Kingdom // Haunted Mansion has also gotten a few permits filed, with the paperwork stating it is to “install set elements.” There are a few different things this could be, though an update to the bride seems most likely since Disneyland just got that done last year.

About Me

Hi, I'm Becky!

I'm a huge Disney fan in my early 30's and always trying to find a way to put a little bit of Disney into everyday life. I live in Pennsylvania but travel to the theme parks several times a year - I'm an annual passholder at Disney World! In addition to Disney I love traveling, running, and theater.
