Stitch Fix review – May 2017

June 15, 2017 by Becky 12 Comments

Summer is coming, hooray!  I am one of those people who is usually freezing all the time, so when the weather turns warm I’m in a much better mood.  Even when it’s 90+ degrees out I’m happy because it reminds me of being in my favorite place (Disney World, of course!).  And summer means I can wear lots of dresses and skirts, which is my preferred look.  I don’t enjoy wearing pants if I can help it.  So of course for this beginning of summer fix I requested mostly dresses and skirts.

And my wonderful Stitch Fix stylist Julie picked out some beautiful pieces for me!  I got two dresses, two skirts, and a top.  If you’re not familiar, Stitch Fix is a subscription box service that has you fill out a style profile survey, and then they send you 5 clothing items to try on – you decide what to keep and what to send back!

41 Hawthorn Lilou Ruffle Neck Blouse – $54

This was kind of a cute shirt, but I found that it didn’t do a lot for me.  I’m not super into the more flowy shirts that seem to be fashionable lately.  The scalloped sort of edges around the neckline were kind of fun, but it just didn’t feel very me.  Plus, for $54 I didn’t find it to be anywhere near worth the money for this one.  Returned.

Renee C Cally Pencil Skirt – $48

I can see why the above top was included, because it matched this pencil skirt really well.  I own 2 other pencil skirts, and I’ve decided the style just isn’t for me.  I just find that it tends to bunch up easily (see above photo), I’m constantly pulling them down, and they make me a little self-conscious of having some tummy.  The pattern was cute though.  Returned.

Gilli Morgen Printed Skirt – $54

Stitch Fix is cool because they send me items that match my style really well and that I would normally gravitate towards in a store, but it also pushes me out of my comfort zone.  This skirt is definitely the type of thing that I would be drawn to if I was out shopping.  The pattern and colors are fun, I love the style, and the fabric is super soft and smooth.  In fact, I’m wearing it right now.  Kept.

Gilli Ryland Knit 2fer Maxi Dress – $78

Remember how I talked about Stitch Fix pushing me out of my comfort zone?  I had always been against maxi dresses, but last year Julie sent me one that I totally fell in love with.  And I got another one this fix that’s also a total winner.  I love the fun pattern on the skirt and the solid top part.  It’s beautiful and I already wore it on vacation when we visited some of the Williamsburg area wineries.  It was the perfect outfit for a day out at the winery.

41 Hawthorn Evander Dress – $68

I really wanted to like this dress.  And I did out of the box, and on the hanger.  But I think I’ve discovered that I’m also just not a fan of dresses with an elastic waistband and how they look on me.  I don’t know if I just have a weirdly shaped torso or what, but the elastic never seems to hit the right spot.  I always feel like I end up with a lot of baggy fabric on the top.  I can get it to look okay for one picture, but it’s not a comfortable or flattering look to actually wear around all day.  So despite liking everything else about it, I had to send this one back too.

I really love the two items I kept from this fix!  Julie was awesome as always.  I scheduled an earlier fix than usual for the beginning of July instead of the end of the month so I can hopefully get some more cute dresses!

If you’re interested in signing up for your own Fix, I would love it if you’d use my referral link – it would give me a $25 credit to use on a future fix, and doesn’t cost you anything.  I used a friend’s link when I signed up for mine so I could help her out, so I know it’s much appreciated!

I’m ALSO always cold and I ALSO hate pants. Let’s buy 8,000 dresses and move to Orlando.

I have the same problems with elastic waist dresses and pencil skirts. The skirt and dress you kept are lovely!

I love that maxi on you, it looks so comfortable yet chic at the same time! And I really loved the first top as well, but I’m a sucker for scallops on anything and navy is my favorite color to wear 🙂

Thanks! I did really like the scalloped edges, I just wish the shirt itself was a different fabric or a little more fitted.

Okay so I know exactly how you feel about being self conscious in certain clothes etc., but I have to say, you seriously ROCKED all of those! I am shocked that you didn’t like that elastic waistband dress on you! It is fabulous! I have a funny shaped torso too. I’m very boxy even though I’m thin and petite, so I feel your pain with thinking things fit my torso oddly. I don’t think that’s the case with that stress though 🙂

Aww thank you! The elastic waistband is just feels so odd on me. Like I always feel like I’m trying to adjust it, pull it down, pull it up, and I’m never quite sure where it’s supposed to sit haha. I’m not very fashion savvy – that’s why Stitch Fix has been so great!
