Mickey Monthly Subscription Box review

Subscription boxes are something that I love, so I’m super excited to see more Disney boxes coming out!  If you’re not familiar with the concept, it’s a box around some sort of theme that gets sent to your house on a regular basis (usually once a month) and it’s filled with goodies for that theme.  Most of the time the items in the box are a surprise, so it’s a fun way to treat yourself!  There are subscription boxes with clothing like Stitch Fix, food (Love with Food), make up (Ipsy), geeky stuff (Loot Crate, Marvel Collector Corp) and almost anything you can think of.  Mickey Monthly is one that sends Disney stuff!

They offer a couple of different options: a snack box, a souvenirs box, or the most popular combo box.  This box combines Disney souvenirs with food treats found around the parks.  They also have three different sized boxes for each category.  I was sent the Mickey-sized combo box to review, which retails for $59.99.

The box came stamped with the words Mickey Monthly on it, getting me excited about what might be inside!  And I can tell you that I was definitely not disappointed.  I love the idea of sending food items in the box.  I don’t know why, but Disney foods make me feel much closer to being in the theme parks.

The first food item I got was a Mickey rice krispie treat.  Such a classic Disney snack, and now I can enjoy one at home too!  They even wrapped it in a cooling pad so that the chocolate didn’t melt on the way over.

I also received cinnamon toast popcorn.  I love popcorns of all varieties, especially Disney popcorns, and I haven’t tried this flavor yet so I’m excited to dig in.

The final treat I got was a pack of gummies from Goofy’s Candy Co.  Gotta love gummies, but they’re even better when they’re in the shape of Mickey heads!

On the souvenir side of things, I got some really cool items.  Something I thought was neat was that some of them were theme park exclusive items: as in, they aren’t something I could just buy off of the Disney Store website.  I received a pack of Magic Bandits to adorn a magic band.  There were three of them in sparkly colors and I don’t have any bandits yet!

The next souvenir was a set of Mickey measuring cups.  These are so cute and I do a lot of cooking, so I can always use measuring cups.

It seemed like this box had a very food related theme.  Another item I received was a Mickey rice krispie magnet.  It looks a lot like a real rice krispie treat.  I actually saw this item first and thought “man, now I really want a real one!” And lo and behold, there was one in the box too.

Finally, I also received two pins.  They were mystery pins – I don’t know what set they were from because I’m not a pin collector and don’t know too many details, but they were both cute.  One was a baby dumbo, and the other was Mickey with popcorn.

Overall I was really impressed with this box.  I thought it had a good mix of items, and they were all things I was excited to get.  I recommend the combo box because it really feels special to be getting some Disney treats right to your own home.  Go check out Mickey Monthly today!

Anyone thinking of joining Mickey Monthly, DON’T. This is a total rip off. They only give you half of what you pay for…a $50 box gets you only $25 of merchandise. I sent them a message and they replied and said that half of the $50 is for shipping, time spent shopping for items and staff pay. I am so bummed 🙁

Because they are not owned by Disney, it would be impossible for them to send out a full-value box – they have no way of getting discounts and would lose money in the process. A lot of what you are are paying for with these types of subscription boxes is the surprise and the value of getting something at your door that you wouldn’t otherwise have access to. They are very upfront about that in their FAQ on their website. They state that “Our service is about receiving official items from the most magical place on earth, to anywhere in the world. This means we can’t match big box retailer prices. You will receive about $35 to $45 worth of merchandise with a $59.99 box. A good rule of thumb for all of our packages is about 45% of the cost goes to these fees, so you will typically receive about a minimum of 55% in merchandise (including tax).”

I have had a subscriptuon to Mickey Monthly for 4 months now. I have cancelled my subscription after this month. The last month box wasn’t worth the $60 I paid for it, but the items added up to $40 or so. This month’s box had less than $30 in it. I asked them if I was missing something and they stated the charges were higher this month because they did extra in the last box. I saw a picture posted from someone else who got the same box as me but he received one more item than I did. I questioned the picture and the admin of the site deleted it and told me it was the more expensive box. I know that wasn’t true because the extra item wasn’t worth the extra $30 the larger box costs. Needless to say the Mickey Monthly subscription is not consistent in their fees or their value. Don’t join this subscription!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I know that they can’t give a $60 value for their boxes (since they don’t have access to discount items and have to pay for shipping), but at under $30 it sounds like it may not be the best deal out there.

I was happy with the first 2 boxes. There was probably about $40 worth in them. I understand that there has to be shipping charges and also charges for the company to do what they do. The 3rd box didn’t have the quality items that the previous 2 had, but I still gave it one more shot. The last one was just ridiculous. To me it almost seems like they were trying to drum up business over the holidays and now that they are over they have stopped trying so hard. I would think with better business you would make things more affordable to keep growing. Not rip people off.

Such a shame that it seems like they’ve gone downhill! I was happy with around a $40 value as well but I would be upset if I got the box you did. I would certainly expect more.

We have received 4 boxes now and I plan on cancelling. The very first box was a huge disappointment. The second one wasn’t much better. We received the fourth one today and it’s the best one yet, however, it’s just not worth the money overall. We are HUGE Disney fans and LOVE the merchandise, but we’re not getting what we pay for.

They seem to be getting worse as time goes. I don’t know if they’re wanting to make more money or something, but you can’t gain customers by disappointing others!

Yes, honestly I have heard a number of negative things recently. Very unfortunate. I’ll be curious to see how things go for them in the next couple of months.

It’s a shame to hear that it sounds like they’ve gone downhill a bit! Have you checked out my list of Disney subscription boxes? There are a lot of other options out there now at more reasonable price points!
