It’s been a little while since I’ve gotten the excitement of a Disney subscription box showing up on my doorstep, so when my Magical Surprise box arrived last week it was definitely a bright spot in my day! Magical Surprise focuses on Disney pins, and they have a number of different options.
Their most affordable box is $10/month, and includes 2 surprise open edition pins. There are many different size and value boxes, all the way up to the $100/month box, which includes all sorts of new and vintage Disney themed items. I was sent the “Jumbo pin Magical Surprise” box. This one is $50 per month and includes 2 open edition New or Vintage Disney pins, 2 limited edition New or Vintage Disney pins, and 5 additional pins, plus a lanyard or other surprise. All pins are authentic.
I am not a pin expert like many Disney fans. I don’t have a huge collection, just some here and there that I’ve come across. Plus I try to get a pin from every trip I take. So I don’t know anything about the rarity of the pins, or even necessarily which ones in this box are the “limited edition” ones and which ones are “open edition.” You’re getting an opinion based solely on just looking at the pins and not outside pin knowledge.
There was a 7 pin princess set in the box. I’m happy that it includes my two favorite princesses, Belle and Tiana! As well as the other classic princesses. They are not the typically drawn design of the princesses. They seem to have a fuller faces and more cartoonish look to them. Cute!
This is clearly one of the limited edition pins, since it says “First day of summer 2009” on it. The design is very cute. Perhaps if you are a big pin collector this is a neat one to add to your collection, because you might not have it otherwise. As a casual collector it doesn’t mean a lot to me personally since I have no real relationship with the first day of summer in 2009 (I guess I had just finished my junior year of college! I spent that summer doing an internship in the theater department at my college).
Next we’ve got Minnie Mouse with what looks like a Hawaiian background. I’m not sure where or when this is from but it would be fun for Minnie Mouse fans!
Who’s a fan of Baymax? He’s definitely a Disney character I’m a big fan of, so it’s great to have a pin with him on it!
Finally, there was this two pin set of vinylmation figures. It looks like they are supposed to be a bride and a groom, which is fun and appropriate for me since I had a fairy tale themed wedding and honeymooned in Disney World. Plus I was a big vinylmation collector at the time of our wedding – my cousin even made a large “create your own” vinylmation for us as a wedding present!
In addition to the pins there was a lanyard included. This is one of the thinner lanyards and features Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater. It would be great for carrying and displaying some of your pins around the parks!
Overall I thought there were a lot of pins in this box so it seems like a good value, especially considering that Disney pins can be a bit pricey. I think it would be a good subscription box for any Disney fans who like surprises, and pin collectors looking to broaden their collection! Get your first box by visiting here.
What is your favorite pin in this box? Do you collect Disney pins?
Your first day of summer & tiki Minnie are your Le pins, 1500 & 1000 respectively. 🙂
Thanks for the info! That would have been my guess.
Not sure why this made me laugh so hard, but the Disney Princess pins made me think of Gus from the cartoon show RECESS. Love these pins!
