Highlights from my Disney trip – May 2016

Disneyland

Back to the real world.  I had a great time during this solo trip to Disney, but one of the nice things about being a blogger is that I can relive the memories once I’m back by sharing them all with you!  I got to do a number of fun things while I was down there, so I figured I’d share some highlights right now and do some more detailed posts later.  Here’s what you can look forward to:

Staying in All-Star Music

I really enjoyed this value resort.  I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a preferred room (no additional charge) and the convenience was pretty awesome.  I was in the Calypso building and everything was bright, fun, and colorful.

Dealing with the Rain

Dark clouds move in over Japan.

Dark clouds move in over Japan.

Not a highlight but a big part of my trip as it rained on and off the first two days I was there.  It was unfortunate but I figure if I can write a blog post about how to handle Disney in the rain, it might help someone else.

Flower and Garden Festival

IMG_4283

I loved this time of year at Epcot.  The topiaries and flowers everywhere are so beautiful, and they have food booths set up – and yes, I sampled something from each one during the course of my trip!

Star Wars fireworks dessert party

IMG_20160520_204759624

It was my first time seeing the new Star Wars fireworks and I really enjoyed them (though the show is getting a big makeover next month!).  I also did the dessert party they are offering, which had not only desserts buy savory options and drinks too.

Dine with an Animal Specialist

IMG_20160521_134041846_HDR

A dining experience that a lot of people don’t know about, you can have lunch at Sanaa with an animal specialist who works there and learn all about what they do.  The event holds up to 12 people but as it turns out I was the only one who signed up that day!  So I had a private lunch and talk with the Disney cast member, as well as a delicious meal.

Dinner at the Diamond Horseshoe Revue

IMG_4582

I’d been hearing a lot of negative things about this meal, but I have to say it certainly wasn’t bad.  I got to meet up with a friend for dinner who I don’t see very often and was pleasantly surprised by the food.  It’s nice this venue is back open (at least for now) and it would be great if they added a dinner show since the restaurant has a stage!

D-Luxe Burgers at Disney Springs

IMG_20160519_193447277

I was hoping to try a number of the new food places at Disney Springs, but this was the only one I got to.  There just wasn’t enough time (or room in my stomach!) for everything, but I had a great burger with a good friend as well as a tasty milkshake.

Lots of park time

IMG_4609

I’m no good at relaxing when there are theme parks around!  I spent most of my time in the parks (not by the pool) and rode a good number of rides in all of them.  Epcot is a little dead right now in the ride department since Soarin’ is still closed and the new Frozen ride hasn’t opened yet.

What are you most interested in hearing about?  What blog post should I write first?

Bummer it rained :/ But I’m thinking that it may have been less packed because of that? We were at Universal Studios in January and it was FREEZING…less lines 🙂

It was definitely less crowded the days it rained – the days when the sun was out it was packed!

Glad you had fun and enjoyed our Orlando rain!

Why is Soarin’ closed? Is it for renovations?

Yeah, they are going to re-open Soarin’ next month with a new film. It’s going to be Soarin’ over the World instead of just over California.

Oh man, I definitely feel like rain would stress me out on a trip! I strangely like being at Disneyland when it rains but I would be annoyed if it happened at WDW. I’m taking note of all the food you’re eating because I feel like that’s all I’m going to do!

I don’t mind a little bit of rain, but when you get one of those Orlando days where it just pours it makes it difficult to do anything! Funny you say that because one of my friends told me to send him pictures of my trip so he could live vicariously through me – and after the first day he’s like, “All you’ve sent me is pictures of food.” Hahaha!

The lunch with an animal specialist was really good and not a lot of people know about it – I highly recommend it!

One of the resorts my family and I looked into on our Disney World trip a year ago (wow it’s been that long?!) was All Star Music! I’m glad to hear a raving review from you on it! I’d love to know more about the resort experience itself!

Rain is never fun at the theme parks but sometimes it helps clear out the crowds 🙂 The dine with an animal specialist thing sounds really cool! My sister would love that.

It was really interesting to dine with an animal specialist! I’m definitely going to do a separate blog post on that.

I loved staying at the Disney resorts when we went for college dance nationals. We were always in the ‘sports’ themed area though 🙂

The Lady and the Tramp topiaries look so cool! Sounds like a fun trip! And makes me excited for my own Disney trip in July (but my ‘local’ park is in Japan, haha).

I really enjoyed this post. Its funny how so many things change at Disney! Last time I was there, none of this was available (to my knowledge)! I think I’ll have to plan another trip soon and stay at one of their own resorts. Thanks for sharing your trip with us

It’s true, Disney is constantly changing – that’s why I I feel like I can go back all the time! If you do decide to plan a trip and need any help let me know – I do Disney travel agent stuff and would be happy to help 🙂

So fun! I would love to see all the flowers. Looks like you had some yummy food, and saw lots of fireworks too. So cool to have a private lunch with the animal specialist.

Yes – I managed to see two of the three fireworks shows that is currently happening at Disney! I tried to make it to the third but I got tired and decided to head to bed early that night 😉

Isn’t she adorable? There were probably around 12 different Disney topiaries, all so well done!
