It was a pretty good week of running! Two of my training runs this week were on Long Island since I’ve been home visiting family for Long Island. It’s always nice to be able to run in a different place and change up the scenery a little bit. Physical therapy continues, and the exercises I’m doing truly do feel challenging, but I think they are helping. My hip feels much better, though my back is continuing to give me problems.
Jeff Galloway training, week 5 – two short runs and a 6.5 mile long run. My favorite distance to run is probably between 5-7 miles, so I do rather enjoy weeks like this.
The first short run I did at the gym in between work and rehearsal. It went pretty well, just a typical treadmill run. I always seem to do better outside than inside.
For the past three or four years I have always run the Turkey Trot in my hometown on Thanksgiving. This year I didn’t sign up right away because I wasn’t sure how my running would be with my injury and physical therapy. When it turned out I was fine to run, I went to sign up but it was already sold out. I was pretty bummed at first, but since we weren’t able to arrive on Long Island until about 1am, the good news was that I didn’t have to get up early to run and I could do it in my own time. So I just did my own personal Turkey Trot.
One of the facebook groups I’m in started a running streak challenge from Thanksgiving until New Year’s, to try and run every single day. So I figured why not? I guess I’m going to try and run 1 mile on the off days. We’ll see if I can keep it up, but on Friday I jumped on the treadmill for 1 mile.
Saturday was a beautiful day for running. It was sunny and about 55 degrees. My family lives on the south shore of Long Island, so I decided to run down to the beach and back, because why not? It’s nice to have a destination in mind and to see the water. My hip felt much better during this longer run, though I’m definitely still feeling the back pain.

Did you burn off any of that Thanksgiving dinner with a workout?
One of my “short” runs this week was 10 miles, so I did that thanksgiving morning while Johnny peeled potatoes (love him).
Haha, 10 miles is a short run. Good for Johnny! Though I would say peeling potatoes is the easier task 😉
I have 3 short runs during this training cycle that are 10 miles. It’s a bit crazy. He can certainly peel 10 lbs of potatoes faster than I can run ten miles. But I definitely prefer the running to the peeling.
It is crazy to think of 10 miles as a short run, even during marathon training!
