This tag was one I saw on two different blogs – 54 Disney Reviews and Tea is a Wish Your Heart makes. Ā I love discussing the films so I decided to tackle these questions myself! Ā All of them deal with the Golden Era of films, which are they earliest ones. Ā This includes Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi.
1. Any unseen films?
Nope, I’ve definitely seen them all! Ā Recently too as part of my mission to watch all of the animated Disney films (linked to the film titles above).
2. What is your favourite film of the era?
I think I have to go with Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs. Ā I’m a sucker for a good Princess movie, and the fact that it was the first one just makes it so special. Ā This is also the only “fairy tale,” which is absolutely my favorite genre of Disney movie.
3. What is your least favourite film of the era?
Pinocchio. Ā I just found it a bit depressing, illogical, and not my favorite of the bunch.
4. Who is your favourite main character?
Not sure if he technically counts as a “main character,” but I’d have to go with Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia. Ā He’s a troublemaker but he learns his lesson. Ā And it’s one of my favorite Mickey outfits!
5. Who is your favourite villain?
The Evil Queen from Snow White, if we’re talking about the baddest villain. Ā I’ve always thought she’s just totally deranged for wanting to kill an innocent girl for being prettier than her. Ā Though Chernabog is a pretty scary villain too.
6. Who is your favourite sidekick?
I’ll go with Thumper. Ā He’s adorable and he’s got a lot of good quotes.
7. What is your favourite song of the era?
Probably Hi-Ho. Ā It’s just so iconic and a great song for the movie.
8. What do you consider to be the most underrated film of the era?
I think Fantasia can be underrated just because of the nature of what it is. Ā Watching short films with music and no lyrics playing just isn’t something we do. Ā It’s hard to even classify it as a movie, but I do think it’s an amazing work and should be appreciated for what it is.
9. What is your favourite thing about this era?
I like how you can see just how much of a hand Walt had in these films. Ā They are so different from anything else that had been done at the time, so to realize how Disney was really paving new ways is an exciting thing.
10. What is your least favourite thing about this era?
Probably the lack of a really substantial plot in many of the films. Ā It’s not surprising since previous to this animation was pretty much all shorts, which didn’t have major plot lines. Ā But these movies seem to have more loose plots with gags on long semi-unrelated scenes (think the pink elephants in Dumbo), and I just like a movie with a little more meat to it. Ā Still fantastic films of course, just different than what we would expect today.
And now I’m going to tag a couple of other people to answer these questions! Ā I nominate Mark from the Animation Commendation, Julia from the Lord Still Loves Me, Ariel from Keys to my Life, and Megan from History and Hockey Sticks!
What is your favorite movie from Disney’s Golden Era?
Loved reading this. I always loved Pinocchio growing up, but it’s definitely not one of my favorites anymore.
That’s interesting. There are some that I remember loving as a kid that I’m not so fond of, and some that have grown on me now more as an adult.
Great blog! I’m a Disney addict.
Thank you! I am too š
I enjoy Disney and most of their movies. Pinocchio was never a favorite. Many more to chose from.
That’s my thoughts on it too.
I’m such a sucker for Bambi. Snow White is pretty great too! I could never get into Fantasia as a kid, or still as an adult.
Aww Bambi! I feel like I have an appreciation of Fantasia for what it is, but it’s not one I ever really want to sit down and watch.
BAMBI!! I LOVE Bambi!! It is such an amazing film. I do not like Dumbo though, and it is super depressing as is Pinocchio.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is my favourite too. I have his ornament, stuffed animal, and other memorabilia, I’m a sucker for Sorcerer Mickey! I also loved that movie too!

I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about the films! And thank you š
My boys love Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia. That was one of my favorites growing up. We went on a school field trip to see it in the theater. It still gives me great memories. I also liked Snow White.

That’s really cool to see Fantasia and Sorcerer Mickey in the theaters! I do love him.
ah! Thank you for the tag! Iām so excited to play along with this. I am now happily humming the tune of Hi-Ho in my mythology class. š
I can’t wait to hear what you have to say!
So fun to hear your answers on this tag. I agree they are great films because they still are so different than anything else Disney has done and so artistically bold.
Yes, it really was so different from anything that had been done before at that point so I like to think about just how amazing these films were at the time too.
Dumbo is my favorite, it’s one of my favorites overall. I’m currently watching all of the animated Disney films in order. It’s fun!
That’s what I’m currently doing as well! We just finished Fox and the Hound, so Black Cauldron is up next.
Love this post! HUGE Disney fan both as a child and as an adult child š
My favorite out of these movie will always be DUMBO. “Baby Mine” has me crying every single time and always has me running into my Mama’s arms. And “Pink Elephants” is visually justfun in mind trip type way š
Aww, it really is an emotional film!
