For the past five years I’ve come up with a little Halloween tradition for myself – painting a pumpkin. I’m not a huge fan of carving so I decided to paint instead, and I’ve been doing it on plastic pumpkins so I can keep them around in the future. Every year I add a new one to the collection – and of course every pumpkin I’ve done is Disney themed! You can see the other pumpkins I’ve made here, but now I’m ready to reveal this year’s pumpkin.
After considering a couple of options, I decided to go with Inside Out. I’m trying to represent my favorite Disney movies, and Inside Out is definitely a top contender for my favorite Pixar film. Plus the style that I paint my pumpkins in seemed to work for this one, whereas other movies are a little more challenging. I’m not a great artist when it comes to detail work, so I do all of my painting in silhouettes. I like to add color where I can to make it more interesting, and Inside Out was perfect for that!
I thought about doing each character in their “color”, but ultimately I decided to do them all in black with a colorful background. I think it came out pretty well. I freehand all of my drawings, so some of them turn out better than others.
I thought Fear turned out pretty well. I told my husband that Sadness looked a little like a blob but he said that was fitting for Sadness so it was okay. Disgust was the most challenging one I did. I always draw in pencil first before I paint, and I had to try her about 3 times before I was ready to paint. She’s still a little bigger than I would like (since she’s supposed to be shorter than Joy) but at that point I was good with it!
On the back of the pumpkin I always put the movie logo. Also done freehand but I try to make it look as close to the movie font as I can.
And that’s this year’s Inside Out pumpkin! I’m already brainstorming what to do for next year…
What do you think of my Inside Out pumpkin? Any ideas for which movie I should tackle next year?
You did such a great job! I’m definitely showing this to my niece since she loves Inside Out!
Thank you – I hope your niece likes it too! 🙂
I love your pumpkin! So cute! 🙂 I love the idea of painting a pumpkin, because I’m not one for carving either.
Yeah I’d rather stay away from anything too sharp haha! At least if I get paint on my hands I can just wash it off lol.
Aw this is such a cute idea, I need to try it! I am so glad I came across your blog too, keep up the lovely work! x
