All-Star Movies room tour

Take a look inside a standard All-Star Movies room, room number 4949:

I can now say I’ve stayed at every Disney resort – and while I do very much enjoy the deluxes (and using my DVC points!), I still stay at a value once in awhile too! On my most recent trip, I was at the All-Star Movies resort for 1 night before switching to Saratoga Springs.

I was solo for this night, so I had plenty of space in the room. While the values are smaller rooms, it would still be a decent size for 2 adults and 1 or 2 children on a budget. I will say, I was overall impressed with the resort! I liked the room, and ultimately only had one real complaint.

Unfortunately, it could be a big one depending on your tolerance levels. From my experience, the walls were extremely thin here. I don’t think any of the Disney resorts have particularly great, super-soundproof walls, but this was noticeably bad.

When I was falling asleep the first night, I kept hearing a strange noise… almost like a machine quietly running, but I couldn’t figure out what it was (I checked the fridge first). Eventually I realized it was actually someone snoring in the room next to me. And these weren’t overly loud snores either, but I could still hear it as I was trying to fall asleep.

I had a similar problem the next morning, around 6am. I heard several adults talking and laughing in the OTHER (non-snoring) room next to mine. They were not being particularly rowdy or loud or anything, just normal levels of conversation, but it did wake me up (and I hadn’t fallen asleep until around 1am, so I was not ready to get up yet!).

So, this could be a major problem or not depending on your preferences. If noise doesn’t bother you, or you know you’ll be okay with earplugs or a white noise machine, then you’re good to go! But if you’re sensitive to it, this is definitely something to keep in mind here.

Other than that, I actually loved All-Star Movies! I was in room 4949, which was in the 101 Dalmatians section of the resort.

The All-Star Movies room basics

The rooms at All-Star Movies were refurbished in 2021, and they have all of the current amenities I hope for in a basic Disney resort room. That includes the pull-down murphy bed (rather than two queen beds or one pull-out sofa), “floating” nightstands, and an increased number of outlets and USB ports.

Disney actually just announced another refurb for All-Star Movies starting in May 2026. I’m not sure what that will involve, but I’m guessing it will be on a smaller scale (changing out things like pillows and decor), rather than any major changes.

The rooms are still fairly small and basic (about 260 square feet), but for a couple or small family it’s fine. You have the main hotel room with a bed and a table area that pulls down into a second bed, as well as the dresser with a TV, a space for a mini-fridge and coffee maker, and then the sink/bathroom area.

Many of the rooms at the All-Stars are connecting, and you can see that door next to the TV by a set of hooks. This is a great option for families, because two rooms will give you a lot more space, but you can easily access both rooms through the internal door (and/or just leave the door open). If you only have one room, this door is locked.

Beds

These rooms have 1 regular queen-sized bed, and then a second pull-down queen bed. They can sleep up to 4 people total. If you only need one bed, you have the option to leave the second as a table. For me, this is a really nice option for couples (or someone solo), because you get some extra space back in the room that way.

Since I was by myself, I actually did some work in the morning at the table, so I really liked having it there as an option.

If you are planning to have the bed down the whole time, one thing to keep in mind is the chairs. They don’t fold down, so you need to have another place to put them. There is a little space between the coffee maker and the TV, or by the window. If you aren’t using the connecting door you could put them there as well. There are a few options, but with a smaller room it’s not ideal.

As far as I’m aware, the mattresses are pretty consistent across Disney property. They are pretty comfy and I’ve never had a problem. The pull-down mattress is much more comfortable than the old pull-out couches.

I also appreciate that there are plenty of nightstand options. Some hotel rooms only have one nightstand in between the two beds (so the person closest to the wall is out of luck!).

All-Star Movies has what I call the “floating nightstands,” which are little cubes attached to the wall. They are smaller and basic, but they get the job done. You have an outlet, a small surface to put your glasses, phone, or whatever else you might need, and a space below to store a few other items. There’s also a “Hey Disney” on one of the nightstands.

Across from the bed is a dresser with the TV above it. The dresser has 3 regular drawers and a cabinet. Inside the cabinet you’ll find a safe and a few smaller shelves.

Bathroom

The bathroom is a pretty basic setup, with the sink in a separate area outside of the toilet/shower. This is nice when you have multiple people getting ready in the morning. By the sink you have a little bit of counter space, plus a few shelves above.

There is a small “closet” area for hanging clothes, though it’s not very large. You’ll find that tucked in the corner of the bathroom sink area.

The bathroom itself is very standard. You do still have the tub and shower combination, with a sliding glass door rather a shower curtain.

Kitchen Area

The coffee maker is a cuisinart model that makes 1 or 2 cups at a time. Joffrey’s coffee is provided, as well as several kinds of tea. The drawer below the coffee maker pulls out, and that’s where you’ll find the coffee, tea, sugar, and creamer.

I believe it’s not technically correct to call this a “mini fridge,” and Disney refers to it as a “beverage cooler.” There is a note on it that says it cools to 41 degrees. This is important, because you really shouldn’t store food at anything over 40 degrees. The intention of this unit is for drinks (as the name implies), not food. The room doesn’t have a microwave anyway, but this is still important to keep in mind if you were considering bringing any refrigerated food or taking some leftovers back.

The unit where you’ll find these items also has an ice bucket, and two small shelves above. I’m sure you could use these for storing a few things if you needed the space.

Themeing

The over-the-top themeing at the All-Star Resorts doesn’t really carry over in the rooms – it’s not overly decorated. There’s really only one piece of art, which features Mickey, Minnie, and Donald.

If you pull down the second bed, you get some additional artwork here too. Huey, Dewey, and Louie are asleep and having three separate dreams – one of sports, one of movies, and one of music.

Finally, the curtain has an abstract pattern that features mostly a reddish orange, though there are a few other colors thrown in. The chairs match this color scheme.

The themeing of the rooms is the same at all three All-Star Resorts, so they keep it fairly neutral (or they incorporate sports, music, and movies into one design). I’d love to see a little more fun themeing choices in these rooms! maybe with the latest refurbishment.

Location

My room was on the second floor of the 101 Dalmatians building, closer to the pool and main building, but facing towards some trees. I found this area to be very quiet in terms of foot traffic and outside noise.

This room is classified as a “preferred” room, because it is closer to the main building. The standard rooms and preferred rooms themselves are identical, the only difference is location.

Overall thoughts on the All-Star Movies room

The rooms are small and basic, but they seemed to be in good shape and are having a refurb soon. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the parks, I really do think they have everything you’d need. It could definitely be a tight fit for a group of 4. For 2 or 3 people it’s a great, affordable option. Also a good choice for a family of 5 or 6 to get two connecting rooms.

The themeing out in the resort itself is so fun. You could do so much with the movies theme that I wish some of that carried into the rooms. I do realize it’s a value resort so they keep it pretty basic, but there might be some simple ways to spruce it up a little.

My first impressions were that I had been missing out by not staying at the All-Stars. Saving money with decent accommodations? Seems like a no-brainer! Then I tried to sleep. Those thin walls were definitely tough for me. I would be willing to stay in an All-Star Movies room again, but I’d be more prepared for the sleeping/noise situation.

You know, it’s funny, I used to stay there all the time and now I can’t remember how bad Pop’s wall situation is. I feel like not so bad but still worse than a deluxe? I’m willing to test this if needed. 😂

I know, I can’t remember either! We’ll definitely need to test.
