Last week was a big week with a 17 mile run! Literally after finishing the Hershey Half and then doing another 4 miles afterward I got lunch, drove home, took a shower, and then got back into the car for 2 hours to drive up to the Poconos for a work conference. The conference was held at Kalahari Resort, which side note – was a really awesome place! I would love to go back with Jason and/or a group of friends sometime.
Now that we’re really getting into the big mileage, we get two weeks with “shorter” long runs rather than every other week. So this week it was the regular two 30 minute runs plus a 5 mile run.
I did my first 30 minute run on Tuesday, two days after the 17 miles. On Monday my legs felt really sore and tight, but they were feeling a little better on Tuesday… until I actually started running. Then all of that tightness came back and it was a bit painful, but I took it slow and still got my 30 minutes done. I’m sure it didn’t help that I spent so much time sitting at the conference those two days.
My second 30 minute run I went to the gym to do on Thursday. I thought maybe the treadmill would be a little easier on my legs than all the pavement and hills outside. And it felt pretty good so it was probably a solid choice to do this one on the treadmill.
For my 5 mile run I did it on Friday because the weather was supposed to be gorgeous. And it was, but it was also almost 80 degrees! I was not anticipating it to be quite that warm. So funny enough my 5 mile pace was a lot slower than my 17 miles a week earlier. There were a couple of factors: the heat made me a lot slower, there were a lot of leaves on the ground where I run which means I have to be careful not to slip, and my legs still had just a little bit of soreness from the previous weekend. But I got it done!
Did you have good weather this week? How’s your weekend looking?
